Environmental and Recycling Policy Identified Waste
Office Area: office paper, corrugated paper or cardboard, other paper, Printer Cartridges. Dining Area: newspapers/magazines, uneaten food and drink. Recycling Policy Egg cartons, cereal boxes, and other materials to local Primary school for use in arts and crafts activities. Scrap raw vegetables are used to feed our two pet rabbits. Scrap food and egg shells go to compost. All waste paper and card products go in allocated bin and collected fortnightly by local council for recycling. Used printer cartridges go to a local Primary School for recycling which benefits a children’s charity. All glass, plastic bottles and containers and tin cans go in allocated waste bin and collected by local council for recycling. Old waste tablecloths, sheets etc go to clothing and household charity waste bin in Denshaw village. To minimize our waste we… Use small serving dishes for butter and jams to reduce packaging. Re-use cleaning cloths after washing. Buy beverages in concentrate or bulk form. Buy shelf-stable food supplies in bulk. Buy local products to reduce food mileage. Have some products delivered by local suppliers when they are delivering their rounds. Buy milk in reusable glass bottles from a local farmer. Whenever possible, we prepare foods to order to prevent waste. Adjusting the size of meal portions if we find they are consistently being returned unfinished. Wrap freezer products tightly, label, and date them. We make sure they are used in a timely fashion, to minimize waste due to freezer burn. Rotate perishable stock at every purchase to minimize waste due to spoilage. Clean fridge and freezer regularly to ensure that food has not fallen behind the shelving and spoiled. Refill Shampoo, conditioner and shower gel containers to reduce packaging waste. Send laundry in reusable sacks. Request guests email address for confirmations etc to reduce paper use. Also to help the environment … All our rooms are non-smoking. We encourage guests to only have towels changed every other day. Outside water use is from a natural spring well. The building has double glazing and is insulated to the latest high standards. Rooms have digitally controlled efficient under floor heating which is maintained regularly. Energy efficient light bulbs are used where possible. Modern toilets that use the minimum amount of water to flush. We do not supply any disposable items to our guests, (cups etc) everything is sterilised and reused. Timed lighting buttons on stairs and landings prevent lights being left on all night.
